Energy Maritime Associates (EMA) has released its latest Floating Production Outlook Report (2026–2030), providing a detailed assessment of market trends, future activity, and key drivers shaping the floating production sector over the next five years.
In the first 10 months of 2025, 14 contracts for floating production systems were awarded, which was fewer than anticipated, largely due to the absence of new awards from Petrobras. However, the long-term outlook for floating production remains strong.
“We continue to see strong fundamentals for offshore production,” said David Boggs, Executive Director of EMA. “While 2025 has been slower than expected, the underlying indicators point to renewed momentum as we move into 2026.”
Several recent developments suggest that activity is set to accelerate:
These near-term signals are reinforced by strong long-term fundamentals. According to Rystad Energy, 70% of undeveloped reserves are profitable below $50/bbl. In addition, major energy companies such as BP, Shell, and Equinor have increased their investments in hydrocarbons, reflecting continued confidence in the sector’s future.
