Webinar: Breaking the deadlock in offshore development

Webinar: Breaking the deadlock in offshore development

Floating Energy Forum - 3rd Webinar in Series:
Breaking the deadlock in offshore development

The offshore floating production sector has no shortage of idle FPSOs or undeveloped reserves — but pairing the right vessel with the right field has long been slowed by risk misalignment, rigid commercial models, and cautious project sequencing. That picture is starting to change.

In a recent webinar hosted by Energy Maritime Associates (EMA) and Riviera Maritime Media, specialists from EMA, Amplus Energy Services, and Lloyd’s Register walked through how smarter redeployment strategies, more flexible deal structures, and even emerging nuclear technologies are redefining what’s technically and commercially achievable. Their discussion highlighted a market that’s becoming more data‑driven, more open to unconventional solutions, and far more willing to rethink how floating production projects get off the ground. The conversation also ventured into longer-horizon territory, including whether nuclear power could one day reshape the energy architecture of floating production entirely.

Key insights include:

  • Operators now plan around redeployed FPSOs early to cut cost and timeline—not just as a fallback.

  • Lean companies like Navitas Petroleum, Amplus Energy, and Finder Energy are outmaneuvering majors in marginal fields through flexible financing and fast decision-making.

  • Equity-based models and aligned lifecycle contracts can unlock projects that a traditional day-rate charter cannot.

  • Nuclear offers long-life, zero-carbon, stable power with potentially lower OPEX and fewer logistics — a step-change for future FPSO design.

  • Frameworks and underwriting capacity for offshore nuclear are already forming; the barrier is industry uptake, not regulation.

  • Securing vessels, partners, and new technologies ahead of the pack yields major schedule and cost advantages.

Traditional offshore projects are often held back by two major hurdles: eye-watering development costs and limited competition. Whether you are an operator screening new prospects or a contractor looking for a more stable pipeline, this session offers a pre-development roadmap for deciding what is viable, what isn’t, and how to get to First Oil as quickly as possible.

From Webinar to Forum: Continuing the Conversation

This session was the next step in a broader conversation that will continue through the webinar series and at the Floating Energy Forum on May 14, 2026.

The forum is designed to accelerate progress acros

s floating energy technologies and project development. The webinar series is intended to build momentum by offering focused, data-driven insights into what is shaping project outcomes today and what will matter most over the next decade.

Across the webinar series and at the forum itself, we will continue exploring how floating hydrocarbon solutions can unlock stranded resources, deliver competitive economics, and support lower-impact developments in remote regions.
