Webinar: Floating Gas Comes of Age

Webinar: Floating Gas Comes of Age

Floating Energy Forum - 2nd Webinar in Series:
Successfully unlocking stranded gas using FLNGs and FSRUs

The floating gas sector has reached a pivotal moment. Seventeen FLNGs are now being tracked globally with 52 FSRUs in operation, and a new generation of standardized, rapidly deliverable units are entering the market. Developers and host governments are discovering that monetizing stranded gas reserves no longer requires the multi-decade timelines and prohibitive capital commitments that once defined the sector.

Yet even as project execution improves, supply chain constraints, particularly in power generation and compression equipment, are introducing new scheduling risks that could limit the pace of expansion.

These were among the central themes explored at a recent webinar hosted by Energy Maritime Associates and Riviera Maritime Media, bringing together senior figures from across the floating gas value chain.

Key insights include:

  • The market has shifted dramatically since the first FLNG order in 2011, with floating gas now embraced as a mainstream development model.

  • Standardization is transforming delivery, cutting schedules and reducing execution risk while enabling faster replication across shipyards.

  • Supply chain constraints are emerging, particularly for power generation and compression equipment, creating potential bottlenecks for upcoming FLNG projects.

  • FSRU operational experience underscores the importance of flexibility, skilled crews, and strong O&M processes as more countries adopt LNG‑to‑power.

  • Small emerging markets face challenges due to limited offtake volumes, requiring modular solutions and creative commercial structuring.

  • Capital and commercial models are evolving, with greater interest from infrastructure funds, mid‑scale developers, and investors favoring standardized designs.

From Webinar to Forum: Continuing the Conversation

This session was the next step in a broader conversation that will continue through the webinar series and at the Floating Energy Forum on May 14, 2026.

The forum is designed to accelerate progress across floating energy technologies and project development. The webinar series is intended to build momentum by offering focused, data-driven insights into what is shaping project outcomes today and what will matter most over the next decade.

Across the webinar series and at the forum itself, we will continue exploring how floating hydrocarbon solutions can unlock stranded resources, deliver competitive economics, and support lower-impact developments in remote regions.

3rd Webinar for FEF2026

The 3rd Webinar: Breaking the deadlock in offshore development , will take place on Wednesday, 18 March 2026 from 15:30 to 16:30 GMT. Traditional offshore projects are often held back by two major hurdles: eye-watering development costs and limited competition. Whether you are an operator screening new prospects or a contractor looking for a more stable pipeline, this session offers a pre-development roadmap for deciding what is viable, what isn't, and how to get to First Oil as quickly as possible.
